Asian culture is one of those that maintains respect for the elderly and traditions. Furthermore, many members of its population manage to exceed the life expectancy established in other countries.
Some scientists are dedicated to analyzing why the Japanese live longer than people from other cultures.
Japanese lifestyle
The life expectancy of Japanese people is estimated at approximately 84 years. Furthermore, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the Japanese population, since 2021, has seen the number of people over 100 years old increase by approximately 6,060.
Given this, many people wonder about the secrets of Japanese longevity and, apparently, the answer lies in food of the population.
Diet in Japan
The consumption of fresh foods and high levels of antioxidant compounds is part of Japanese food culture. Sugars and saturated fats are rarely seen in the eating habits of this population.

One region of Japan with the largest number of long-lived people is the island of Okinawa. Here, the main source of food is regionally produced food, such as sweet potatoes.
This tuber is the largest source of calories for the locals. Another food that is very present on the Japanese table is fish, rich in omega-3 and essential fatty acids.
White rice is also a significant part of the preparations. Although the wholegrain version is the most recommended by nutritionists, in the general composition of Japanese food consumption, this change is not extremely necessary due to other foods rich in fiber.
The increase in fiber content occurs due to the greater consumption of vegetables such as turnips, pumpkin, among others. These are also important sources of antioxidants, along with teas, which also contain polyphenols.
Another important factor is how they eat. Unlike Brazilians, Japanese and Asians in general tend to eat small portions.
IN short, this division allows for better absorption of nutrients and satiety without necessarily reaching the stomach’s capacity.
