Big news comes for those hoping for a new approach to treating anxiety. The Canadian company MindMed has made a leap forward in its studies for a single-dose medicine against this disorder, moving into a new phase of development.
Expectations are placed on a very important meeting with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in early 2024. This institution is, in the United States, equivalent to Anvisa in Brazil.

This medication, MM-120, acts directly on serotonin receptors, and final review with the FDA is the next step.
The recent study of 200 participants with anxiety symptoms revealed promising results, pointing to a positive path toward therapeutic approval.
Robert Barrow, CEO of MindMed, highlighted the importance of this progress, indicating notable relief in anxiety symptoms after four weeks of treatment.
The results showed significant attenuation, with 78% of participants experiencing a reduction in symptoms compared to the control group.
Other research used to expand possibilities
While the primary focus is the treatment of anxiety, MM-120 is also studied for potential application in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Additionally, other companies like PureTech are committed to developing similar solutions, with advanced medicines in clinical stages.
MindMed is not the only company engaged in these studies
PureTech, in its research with the drug allopregnanolone (LYT-300), is moving towards phase 2 of clinical trials.
This one medicinelike MM-120, points to new hope in the search for more effective treatments against anxiety.
Anxiety has a wide range of possible responses, and promising treatments are emerging on several fronts. With such evolution, the possibility of a new effective method becomes increasingly tangible.
