A technology This innovative product stands out for its capacity to load and unload more than 6 thousand times.
The new solid-state battery uses a lithium metal anode, differentiating itself from conventional graphite anodes.
These new anodes are claimed to have ten times the capacity of commercial graphite anodes, incorporating micron-sized silicon particles to prevent the formation of dendrites on the anode.
Prototypes the size of a cell phone chip have already been developed by the Harvard team, showing exceptional performance.
The battery retained a remarkable 80% of its capacity after 6,000 cycles, significantly outperforming traditional cell batteries.
“Lithium metal anode batteries are considered the Holy Grail of batteries because they have ten times the capacity of commercial graphite anodes and can dramatically increase the driving distance of electric vehicles,” said SEAS Associate Professor of Materials Science , Xin Li.
The advancement represents a significant step toward more practical solid-state batteries for industrial and commercial applications.
Many consider solid-state batteries to be the next frontier for electric vehicles, promising to make current models obsolete.
Renowned manufacturers such as Toyota are also exploring these super batteries and plan to commercialize electric vehicles equipped with such technology in ‘a few years’.
These batteries promise recharge times of approximately 10 minutes and an impressive range of up to 1,200 km.
Harvard research stands out as a catalyst for the evolution of technology batteriestransforming the scenario of electric mobility.
