A GoalInstagram’s parent company, announced a significant expansion of the feature’Close Friends‘ to the platform’s Feed and Reels.
The update allows users to share Main Feed and Reels posts with a select group of followers.
Feed and Reels also allow the use of ‘Close Friends’
The ‘Close Friends’ feature already allowed Instagram users to share Stories with a restricted circle of friends. Now, it also extends to other areas of the platform, offering a new dimension of privacy and customization.
The ‘Close Friends’ extension, which now regularly covers posts on Feed and Reels, was initially tested with a select group of users in September before being made available to all users.
This development is a reflection of the success and popularity of the original feature, first introduced in 2018, limited to just Stories and Notes.
The ability to share exclusive content with a closed group of friends is now easily identifiable by a green star, signaling the private nature of these posts.
To use this expanded functionality, users can select their ‘Close Friends’ list via the audience menu before sharing a post or Reel.
So when content appears in the ‘Close Friends’ feed, it is indicated in a special way.
This update represents a direct response to users’ needs for greater control over the visibility of the content they share. The expansion will be known as ‘Your Space’ (‘Your Space’, in free translation).
As detailed by programmer and informant Alessandro Paluzzi, ‘Your Space’ will function as a private area within the user profile. The tool will not only allow the posting of exclusive content for a selected group, but the customization of elements such as biography and profile photo, distinct from the public profile.
