Goal advances with the aim of preventing scams via WhatsApp

Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp, has taken several measures to ensure the security of users of its messaging application.

As part of these efforts, the company recently announced that a new security policy is being integrated to prevent account takeovers and other malicious activity.

New WhatsApp measures

The first decision taken by Meta to keep the application secure is that, from now on, WhatsApp data can only be transferred to another device if the request is accepted on the cell phone itself.

This means that the user will receive a notification on their current phone whenever a data transfer is attempted. In addition, the transfer will need to be confirmed.

This security measure is important because many scams involving cloning WhatsApp accounts happen precisely through downloading data to another device.

In addition to the security measure in which data will only be sent upon acceptance of a request on the cell phone itself, other measures are implemented to guarantee the protection of user data.

One of these measures is to provide the time at which the data was downloaded. By accepting the transfer request, all data on the old phone will be completely deleted. This ensures that there are no copies of the data stored on another device.

But that won’t be all. That’s because, from now on, the application itself will carry out an investigation to detect if there is any malware present on the device. According to the information, there will be no need for a request in this process, as it will be automatic.

This new policy is just one of several measures Meta is implementing to ensure security on WhatsApp.

Additionally, the company has been working on other initiatives, such as using end-to-end encryption and limiting message forwarding to prevent the spread of fake news.
