Global relief: WHO declares end of COVID-19 pandemic worldwide

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared this Thursday (5) the end of the covid-19 pandemic. The decision was made after a significant reduction in cases worldwide.

However, the organization still emphasizes that the threat of the disease still persists and recommends maintaining preventive measures.

Covid-19: global impacts

Over the past two years, the disease has spread to every continent, causing millions of deaths and drastically changing the lives of billions of people across the planet.

According to the WHO, the disease caused around 7 million cases, with 20 million fatalities, although there is much underreporting.

Now, the WHO attributes the end of the pandemic to the adoption of effective measures by governments and populations across the globe, including mass vaccination, social distancing and the use of masks.

In a press conference, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the following:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact across the world, but humanity’s resilience has prevailed. We are witnessing the result of coordinated efforts on a global scale to control the spread of the virus.”

However, the WHO still warns that the threat of COVID-19 persists and recommends that preventive measures be maintained to avoid a resurgence of the disease. This includes continued vaccination, social distancing and the use of masks in high-risk areas.

Furthermore, WHO also highlighted the importance of international collaboration to tackle the pandemic and prepare for future global health crises.

End of the pandemic

The news of the end of the COVID-19 pandemic has been greeted with enthusiasm around the world, with many leaders and citizens expressing their gratitude to the healthcare professionals and essential workers who have fought the disease.

However, although the disaster is under control, its effects will last for a long time. Therefore, it is important that everyone continues to take preventive measures to ensure a healthy future for all humanity.

In short, the end of the Covid-19 pandemic represents a great global achievement, but the battle against the disease is not over yet, after all, international collaboration is essential to guarantee the health and well-being of everyone.
