New research points to a relationship between meal times and the effect they have on human health. According to a study, the time you eat has a direct impact on your health and can pose risks, as well as increasing the chances of obesity.
This eye-opening study sheds light on the importance of when we eat and how our choices at these times can play a crucial role in the development of excess weight.
Eating too late increases the risk of obesity and promotes complications related to metabolic syndrome, including diabetes and stroke.
This is the revelation of an unprecedented study from the Federal University of Uberlândia. The research explores chrononutrition, analyzing the connection between meal timing and health.

According to research, having dinner around 10 pm compared to 6:30 pm is associated with higher levels of weight gain and fat accumulation, as revealed by the data obtained.
The accumulation of abdominal fat increases the risk of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, affecting cholesterol, insulin and blood pressure levels.
In this context, it was realized that the times we eat play a crucial role in our health, since our body follows a circadian rhythm which regulates metabolism and digestion.
Eating late at night can disrupt this rhythm, negatively influencing the way the body processes food and stores energy.
“There is a reduction in basal energy expenditure at the end of the day and beginning of the night, a reduction in oxidation and fat burning at night when food is present, and also postprandial glucose (after a meal) and insulin resistance. they are bigger at night”, says endocrinologist Clayton Macedo, from Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.
“Furthermore, eating late can lead to excessive calorie consumption, as people often eat at this time due to anxiety, nocturnal cravings, tiredness, sleep disorders, boredom, depression, for example”, continues the endocrinologist.
According to nutritionist Cibele Aparecida Crispim, determining the ideal time for the last meal is complex, as it is influenced by factors such as culture, sunlight, seasons and individual chronotype, which indicates the time at which each person works best.
“It is important to respect the body’s signals, increase the amount consumed at breakfast, which is known to be a protective meal for health. healthand reduce dinner, which should only be a complement, stopping eating around three hours before going to bed”, says the specialist.
