we may have just witnessed Matt Ryan He plays the last game of his NFL career. He signed with the former league MVP. Indianapolis Colts Had he played this offseason and the entire 2022 season, he would have made $29 million. However, this season did not go as expected. After the painful loss Tennessee Titans, Ryan was diagnosed with a 2nd degree separate shoulder injury. The quarterback was in so much pain that he couldn’t wear his shirt in the locker room.
Is this why the Indianapolis Colts decided to leave Matt Ryan? No, that was just the tip of the iceberg. The senior quarterback did not meet the expectations of owner Jim Irsay and Head Coach. Frank Reich had it. Following the Titans’ loss, Reich rose and assured the media that Ryan would remain their man for the rest of the season. But later that night, after a lengthy discussion with Irsay, the duo came to the conclusion that his time as QB1 was duly made. Nate Atkins.

Matt Ryan is the league leader in blocking and incompetence this season:
Matt Ryan has had nothing but a crushing season this year. He leads the NFL with 9 interceptions, 11 failures and lost to the defenders he played. He was sacked a total of 24 times in just 6 games. At 37, he’s been hit 59 times, which isn’t good for any quarterback, let alone a veteran of his age and build.
It’s not entirely Ryan’s fault that the Colts have failed this season. Indy couldn’t hit the ground running with the running game led by Jonathan Taylor. The offensive lines didn’t do their job and didn’t protect the quarterback, so Ryan had to do everything he could to get off the ball in a matter of minutes.
Indy takes a trial-and-error approach when it comes to the offensive line. In the last five games, the team started the game with five different linemen combinations. The team has relied heavily on the running game, but this season; they tried to shuffle and return to their passing game. There have been times when this has worked, but nothing has been consistent with them.
Matt Ryan, unfortunately, is the scapegoat in all of this. He’s a problem and his game is worrying, but replacing him won’t solve anything. Frank Reich has a lousy track record with quarterbacks. Over the last 5 years, under ex-HC Chuck Pagano and Reich, the team has been consistent in one thing, changing quarterbacks.
With Sam Ehlinger replacing Matt Ryan, Indy will become the 7th quarterback in 5 years. Sam Ehlinger was a sixth-round pick in 2021. He made 18 snaps but never passed. Indy has Nick Foles as a backup on the depth chart. However, they are willing to start Ehlinger to determine its potential. Fans react to Ryan playing on the bench Twitter:
How do you still have a job?
Neither side lived up to the end of the bargain, with Matt Ryan expecting a supportive offensive line and solid running play at Indy, but that didn’t happen.
It’s terrible to see this.
The number of hits he’s received for his age this year is simply dangerous.
This could be for Matt Ryan’s career. The 15-year veteran, who has thrown more than 59,000 yards and has gone to the 4-Pro Bowls, won the Offensive Player of the Year award, the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and the regular season MVP award. He led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl in 2017, one of the most historic finals in NFL history. Despite starting the race and leading the game 28-3, the Falcons lost the win to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who came back and beat them 34-28.
It’s unfortunate if Matty Ice’s career is going to end like this. The quarterback didn’t deserve to go this way after having such a glorious NFL career. That seems to be the core theme of this season, as we’ve seen seasoned quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Matt Ryan go bad. The Indianapolis Colts won’t notice any major changes with Ehlinger as their QB1. The problem is Head Coach Frank Reich, and until this is resolved, Indy will be nothing more than a graveyard for the careers of seasoned quarterbacks.
