Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides) switches to dark mode on Android and iOS

Google Docs, Sheets & Slides (and possibly Google Drive soon) have been updated with a long-awaited innovation: dark mode. This theme If you have dark mode enabled in your system settings, it will be automatically enabled on Android and iOS. For now, the web version of Google Drive is not affected by the new theme. Dark mode is a type of skin designed to make the smartphone screen less bright.. This has two advantages: first, the screen is more readable without tiring the eyes, especially in the dark or in dim light.

Then, if you have a smartphone with an AMOLED display, this theme will help you extend battery life a bit. Each pixel of an OLED display emits its own light when turned on. Then displaying dark pixels consumes less power. The same principle is used with Always On displays. At the time of this writing, we found that the dark theme appears in all three apps in the Google Drive suite (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) but not in the Google Drive app itself – though it’s likely to arrive soon.

For the rest, Google has even added a dark mode that’s smart enough for those who want to have their dark app’s interface while still browsing documents on a white background. It is possible in the settings to enable this light background. Google is gradually switching all its apps to dark mode. We recently saw Gmail adopting the dark theme. Or Google Photos and Google Calendar. Evil tongues will say “it’s about time” – given that dark mode is commonplace in at least some of the smartphones on the market since the release of Android 10 and iOS 13.

However, it can be objected to: the task is less simple than it seems : it’s not a simple inversion of colors, it’s a ingenious selection of tones with eye-catching and clear mode while separating and highlighting elements.
