Rede Globo: robots take on the role of laid-off workers in newspaper production

Recently, news about Rede Globo hit the spotlight. Apparently, the television channel is undergoing technological maintenance, that is, it is receiving some updates to its equipment, mainly in the news area, in the São Paulo studio.

This change is being made to install robotic cameras that can be operated remotely. This means that there would no longer be a need for a camera operator, but only someone who is able to control it through technological means.

Furthermore, the main objective is to update the means of operation, to keep the studio in line with technological advances around the world.

However, the television companies are not living on flowers alone, as around 20 people have ended up being fired. Even so, the company insists that the dismissals of these employees have nothing to do with the new facilities or the reduction in staff.

A hidden test

Even before the layoffs, some tests with the new robot cameras were already taking place in April. There are sources close to Rede Globo who claim that the network’s employees were unaware of the tests. For this reason, as soon as the news was announced, everyone was surprised.

Not to mention that a complicated climate was created within the company, especially in the technical sector, as well as in news production.

This was not enough to prevent the installation of the new cameras. However, it is believed that only a few local newspapers will benefit from the new feature in the coming months. The idea is that this equipment will be added to the other Rede Globo studios gradually, that is, gradually.

But there is still a problem. Some productions will not be able to receive the equipment due to the limited space in the studio. Therefore, employees will remain operating the cameras throughout the day.

All of this is so that the viewer can receive the best transmission. A huge technological leap, isn’t it?

On the other hand, there are those who are wary of the new system, as some professions may end up becoming unnecessary due to the automation of devices. However, this is an important step forward for a more enhanced visual experience.
