In early March 2023, the Central Bank of Brazil granted the WhatsApp permission to carry out commercial transactions through the application. With the authorization, the company made a new announcement on April 11.
According to the company, starting in the next few months, small entrepreneurs who use the application will be able to enable payment tool. This way, customers will be able to pay for services and products directly through the platform. Keep reading to find out the details!
Is the tool available yet?
At the moment, only a few companies have this feature enabled for use. Initially, it is expected that all WhatsApp Business entrepreneurs will be able to take advantage of this new feature in the coming months.
According to WhatsApp, the idea is for payments to be made through WhatsApp Pay, which has been available for transfers since 2021. Transactions can be made using credit, prepaid and debit cards, with Mastercard and Visa brands, from the financial institutions listed below.

- Bradesco;
- BTG Pactual;
- Box;
- Inter;
- Mercado Pago;
- Neon;
- Next;
- Nubank;
- Santander;
- Sicoob;
- Sicredi.
To ensure the security of both the entrepreneur and the client, the messenger informed that all card numbers will be encrypted and protected. In addition, for each new transfer, the creation of a specific password will be requested.
And how will customers be able to make their payments?
For customers who want to use the tool, it will be necessary to register one of their credit, prepaid or debit cards in the application, following the requirements explained above.
Next, when selecting the card for the transaction, the user will need to generate a specific password for that payment and must provide personal data, such as full name, CPF and card information.
Once the product has been added, the user will be able to make any necessary payments using WhatsApp Pay.
