THE Multiverse News There has been a lot of talk lately about the discoveries made by the James Webb telescope. Some people may be fed up with reading news about the satellite, but this is something to think about.
This is because if a lot of material is appearing, it means that a lot is being discovered and needs to be publicized. All the fuss behind this telescope is due to its innovative technology, which allows the capture and interpretation of infrared waves.
In a quick explanation, everything we see or don’t see is thanks to waves present in the electromagnetic field. These waves have different lengths, or, in other words, some waves are closer than others.
For each section of wavelengths there is a different name, such as: X-rays, ultraviolet rays, infrared rays or visible light rays (colors).
Therefore, the James Webb can capture waves that other telescopes cannot. In this way, we can see more about the events that occur in space.
James Webb captures images of a supernova
The most recent image captured by the telescope is of the supernova cataloged as Cassiopeia A. This new image has much better quality due to the fact that it is “closer” to Earth than others, since it is in the Milky Way.
Furthermore, this supernova is very “young,” having occurred 340 years ago. Even though it may seem like a long time, as far as we see stars in space, this is basically nothing.
However, what is important is what can be seen in it. Because it is so recent, we can see the interaction of cosmic dust with the event, or even understand where this dust comes from. This dust, in turn, makes up several elements of the Universe, such as nebulae, comets, asteroids and others.
Therefore, it is estimated that cosmic dust actually arises from supernovae. Since a supernova is nothing more than the death of a star, thus releasing a lot of energy and matter, that is, dust.
In the image released by NASA on the 7th, it is possible to see in the upper left corner of the image a large mass that forms a kind of cloud. This orange-colored “cloud” (artificially colored) is the dust emissions caused by the death of the star.
In addition, towards the center of the event, it is possible to see several lights with a pinkish tone, created by the fusion of the elements thanks to the enormous amount of energy released.
Remember that this image was only digitally colored, since human eyes are not capable of seeing the infrared spectrum. Therefore, for the analysis to be done, colors from the visible spectrum are added.
