Telegram has seen a new stream of users over the past few weeks. While this is happening, many users struggle to get through the sign-up process as they never receive the code on time. Some users did not receive the code required to verify the account before you used Telegram.
The error is probably on your end and we will help you fix it right away. Note that this may be a network issue. Also, there are other ways to get the verification code. It is worth noting that you will need to enter the verification code every time you end a session, log out or reinstall the Telegram application. So, keep that in mind.
Let’s start.
1. Signal Error
Telegram registration codes are sent via SMS. So, if you’re in a weak network area, your phone may struggle to receive We depend on a solid internet connection for almost everything these days, but not for everything.
Move to a different area to check for enough signal bars. You can also use an app like OpenSignal to find a better signal at your location and map nearby mobile towers, among other things.
2. Use Valid Mobile Number
There are two issues. The first is whether you entered the correct mobile number. Checking again never hurt anyone. The second is whether you are trying to use a fake or burner number to sign up for Telegram. Some users are trying to do this, but we do not recommend it and neither does Telegram. Maybe that’s why Telegram doesn’t send verification code or send to wrong number?
3. Get Code In-App or by SMS
Are you logged into the same Telegram account you are trying to log into from a different device? If so, you should have gotten a code there. In fact, this is the first option Telegram prefers when sending a code. You have the option to receive a Telegram verification code via SMS or even phone call only when you do not receive the code on the other device.
You can use Telegram on a Windows desktop and get the code to complete the login process.
If this is not your case, tap ‘Send code as SMS’ right below to receive an SMS instead. Maybe that’s why Telegram doesn’t send the code because it thinks you’re signed in on another device, and instead of sending an SMS, it sends the code within the app.
If you have given the necessary permissions when entering your phone number in the application, Telegram will now send the code via SMS and read it automatically. Have you interacted with such a popup?
If not, open your preferred text messaging app or the default that comes pre-installed with your phone and check the code.
4. Get Code Via Call
Telegram also has the option to receive the code via search. Useful as an alternative way to get Telegram code and verify your account if both of the above options are not working for some reason.
After requesting the code via SMS, you should see the ‘I did not receive the code’ button below. Therefore, Telegram will send in-app code if it detects your Telegram on another device. It will then send an SMS and finally you can receive it via a phone call. Tap the link and in a few minutes you will receive a phone call with the code quoted.
5. Don’t Ask for Too Many Reposts
Sometimes it takes time to get the code via SMS or even call. Be patient. After a few seconds, you can view the ‘Resend Code’ option. What happens is that users press the button a few times thinking it will send the code to their phone faster, but that’s not how it works. In fact, it could be the other way around and display a notification that says ‘Very Fast’.
If there is a delay in receiving the code, don’t tap the ‘Resend Code’ button too quickly. Tap once if necessary and then wait.
While testing Telegram for this guide we were repeatedly trying to verify our number and I got another message saying ‘Too many attempts, please try again later’. This is another thing you should keep in mind.

Telegram continues to make waves in the messaging world. Telegram is different from WhatsApp in many ways and even better in some ways. You cannot use Telegram without verifying your phone number and you need the code to do so. Telegram works really well and the onboarding process is really seamless for most users. Try it a few times and our advice is to be patient.
