Top 4 Fixes for Google Meet Screen Sharing Not Working in Firefox

For many reasons, screen sharing has become one of the most important features to look out for in a video conferencing tool. Google Meet offers the ability to share screens during a presentation, but it has some shortcomings. For example, some Google Meet users can share their screen in all browsers except Firefox. If you’re in a similar situation, we’ve listed four things you can do to fix the anomaly.

There are many reasons why this happens. First, having multiple Firefox windows open on your computer can break Google Meet’s screen sharing permissions. Second, the screen sharing issue can be a temporary device malfunction. Therefore, close all Firefox windows and restart the browser before following the solutions below. If the problem persists, one of the troubleshooting checks in this guide should fix it.

1. Check Firefox’s Privacy Settings

Note: This applies to Mac running macOS Catalina v10.15 or later. If you’re using Firefox on a Windows computer, continue with the other fixes below.

Apple believes that the content of your screen should be private. Features like screen sharing won’t work without allowing an app to record your Mac’s screen. If you’ve tried successfully presenting your screen in Firefox, check if the browser can capture your Mac’s screen.

Stage 1: Launch System Preferences and select ‘Security & Privacy’.

Step 2: On the Privacy tab, select Screen Recording in the left pane.

Stage 3: Finally, make sure Firefox is checked.

You will be prompted to close Firefox to make the change. You can do this by tapping the ‘Exit and Reopen’ button on the prompt.

We recommend restarting Firefox manually so that you can properly save work in progress in the browser.

2. Allow Meet Share Screen

Like other popular web browsers on the market, Firefox allows you to capture and share your browser window or entire computer screen with supported websites. If you encounter any obstacles while trying to share your screen on any website, check the site’s screen sharing permissions. Go to the Google Meet tab and follow the steps below.

Stage 1: Right-click anywhere on the Google Meet page and select ‘View Page Info’.

This will reveal the list of Google Meet related permissions in your Firefox browser.

Stage 3: Scroll through the permissions and check the Use Default box for the ‘Share Screen’ permission.

This provides Google Meet access to record and share your screen during presentations. If enabled, uncheck the option and check again. Also, when asked to allow Google Meets to see your screen, make sure you select Allow after selecting the screen/window to share. Very important.

3. Try Safe Mode

Firefox add-ons are great. It increases productivity and improves your web browsing experience. Despite their usefulness, these add-ons sometimes break some functions of the browser. Try using Firefox without any add-ons and see if that fixes the Google Meet screen sharing issue. You don’t need to remove your add-ons though. Simply run Firefox in Safe Mode, a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables all add-ons.

Stage 1: Launch Firefox and tap the hamburger menu icon.

Step 2: Select Help from the menu options.

Stage 3: Next, select Troubleshooting Information.

Step 4: Now, tap on the ‘Restart with Add-ons Disabled’ button.

Step 5: Select Restart at the confirmation prompt.

Note: Restarting the browser will restart all active Firefox windows. So be sure to save all your work in progress before continuing.

4. Refresh Firefox

This is another effective troubleshooting solution to Firefox problems big and small. In this case, refresh is another word for reset. You will reset your device’s Firefox to its default settings by following the steps below. It will store personal data such as bookmarks, passwords, cookies and download history. It will remove all extensions, website permissions and other customizations while refreshing Firefox.

Refreshing the Firefox browser is very easy. First, you can get it with the click of a button. Simply tap the Refresh Firefox button below and follow the prompt.

Stage 1: Type this address about:support into the address bar and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

This will redirect you to the Firefox troubleshooting page.

Step 2: Now, tap the Refresh Firefox button.

Stage 3: Select Refresh Firefox at the confirmation prompt to continue.

This will close and restart Firefox. Do not forget to save any important task before refreshing the browser to lose important and unsaved work.
