Notion is a complete suite that can replace multiple apps like Evernote, Google Docs, OneNote, and more. However, it can be a bit complicated and overwhelming. If you’re new to Notion, we’ve compiled ten of the best Notion tips you can use.
Besides its modular nature, one of the best things about Notion is that the software is not limited to taking notes or writing documents. You can manage projects, create tasks and create any database in the app.
Before proceeding, you should master some of the Notion keyboard shortcuts and follow the tips below for smooth practice.
1. Use Concept Templates
Similar to Google Docs and Microsoft Word, Notion offers a dedicated gallery of templates to get started. This template gallery consists of stock templates made by Notion and members of the Notion user community. This is a great way to kickstart your Notion experience by duplicating a template and then customizing it the way you want.
The template gallery offers categories like beginners, Blogs, Students, Businesses and more. You can preview each template, check the description, and then copy it to your Notion page.
2. Create Columns in Concept Sheet
You must have seen these aesthetic Notion pages with columns for better organization on the web. You can create the same in a simple Concept sheet. Here’s how.
Hover your cursor over the text you want to push into a column. As soon as you drag the block to the right you will see a vertical blue line appearing to make a column. Drop the block and you’ve split the Notion sheet into columns.
You can go ahead and create a third column as well. Useful for those who create weekly task managers or who want to use maximum space on a Notion page.
3. Change Concept Fonts
This is another customization trick that many people use to give their Notion pages an aesthetic look. By default, Notion only lets you choose from three font styles. However, you can easily add any text style to your Notion page.
Visit the igfonts website and type the text you want to add to a Notion page. The website will offer multiple text styles to choose from. Copy your preferred text style and paste it into the Notion page. Of course, avoid putting any sensitive information in it.
This is mostly useful for titles. You shouldn’t go overboard with different text styles on a single Notion page.
4. Use Notion in Dark Mode
Notion supports dark mode and looks great. From your Notion control panel, go to Settings & Members and select Appearance. When you choose Dark, you will see an instant change to your Notion page.
You can also switch between dark and light mode using Command + Shift + L keys.
5. Use Concept Widgets
Notion does not officially support widgets. But that hasn’t stopped developers from creating excellent third-party widgets.
You can add live clock widget, progress bar widget, Spotify widget, weather widget and more. Using them, you can easily increase the overall appeal of your Notion page and show off the perfect setup to others on social media.

6. View Page Updates
Page updates are useful for displaying certain information added to a Notion page. You can see changes made by other team members on a single Notion page.

7. Use Sync Blocks
Notion recently introduced the synchronized blocks feature to sync content across blocks. This can be useful when you use the same Notion template on multiple pages. You can make changes from a block and it will be reflected in all Notion pages.
Go to Transform > Synchronized blocks and make changes to Notion pages in one place.
8. Link Concept Pages
This is another nice feature that will save you a lot of time navigating Notion. You can copy a link to a Notion page and integrate it with another keyword on a different page.
This allows you to jump from one Notion page to another Notion page with one click. Open the Concept page you want to link to, click the three-dot menu at the top and select Copy link.
Go to another Concept page and click on a word to which you want to pin the Concept page. Add a link with Command/Ctrl + K and paste the link.
9. Connect the Loose Channel
Notion is a pleasure to use with third-party apps. Among them, Slack offers deep integration with Notion. From a Concept page, click the More menu and select Link Slack channel.
After successful Slack authentication you will get all Notion page for linked Slack channel and updates inside Notion pages.
10. Sharing the Main Concept
Similar to Google Docs, you can share a Notion page and allow others to edit it. Here’s how. After creating a perfect Notion page, you can click the Share button at the top and activate the toggle.
Notion will expand the menu and allow edit or comment only permission. You can also enable Search Engine Indexing, but this is limited to paid plans only. This can be useful for those trying to use Notion as a blog or website.
