Japan plans new ways to regulate use of artificial intelligence

With the advent of new technologies, man reinvents himself every day and must constantly adapt to the new. This adaptation process has been done with the use of artificial intelligence, mainly aimed at protecting the rights of artists. It was recently confirmed that Japan plans to create special regulations on AI.

AI and regulatory changes in Japan

ChatGTP was presented as a virtual assistant that presents multiple tools and performs activities with results similar to human production. A common goal of the developers is to make some tasks more dynamic and automated.

However, this new technology was not received positively by everyone and caused some problems.

Artificial intelligence has sparked significant debate about its appropriate use without compromising an artist’s original output. This topic is being discussed in a variety of areas, from text to image creation. Given this scenario, Japan is planning to create special regulations on AI to avoid future legal issues.

Regarding commercial use, the regulations for this service were already being reviewed by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Japanese government office. Therefore, they proposed two application perspectives for the tool.

The first is to allow free access to AI without worrying about penalties for using it for educational purposes. That is, if the technology is based on existing materials for teaching or learning, it is allowed.

However, things change when this platform is used for commercial purposes. If the system creates a product that is similar to an existing product, it will not be available for sale and the original artist may claim infringement if used.

No final decisions have been made yet, but these suggestions proposed by the Japanese associations have started a necessary process, as many artists have taken a stand against the exploitation of their work by this new technology without due recognition.
