How to Add Voiceovers to Canva Presentations

Slides and presentations can be a bit boring at times. If you want to add a personal touch, adding the voice behind these creations can help add some vibrancy to presentations. In addition to adding visual cues, voiceovers add a unique dimension to normally flat slides. And graphic design tools like Canva let you add voiceovers pretty easily.

There are two ways to do this in Canva for the web: You can pre-record the audio. Or you use Canva’s recording studio (beta) feature.

Either way, you need access to a noise-free and distraction-free room for sound to be crisp and clear. When the slides are ready, the tool does the rest.

How to Add Audio to Canva Presentations via Audio Files

Here we assume that you will add voiceovers to different slides separately. Although the web version of Canva accepts audio and video files, slides and presentations work best with MP4 files. Another limitation of adding audio files to slides is that you can only add one audio per presentation.

So if you don’t have access to an MP4 video, you can easily convert it using one of the many tools like VLC Player.

Canva has pretty limited customization options so you need to make sure the files are cropped before uploading.

Stage 1: When all your slides are complete and ready, upload the files to Canva.

Here, make sure all your files are named correctly so you don’t get confused later. The idea is to name the files by the number of slides.

Step 2: On the first slide (you need to add the voiceover), drag the file onto the slide.

Since this is an MP4 file, you will see a black block at the top of the slide.

Stage 3: Click the Play icon at the top to see if the audio file is working fine. Once done, select the audio file block and click on the Transparency icon at the top.

Drag the transparency slider to the right so that the sound block is almost invisible. Similarly, you can also adjust the volume of the audio file by clicking the Audio button on the top ribbon.

Alternatively, if your slides have a lot of items, you can also push the sound block backwards. This way the sound block is not visible.

Repeat the above steps for all slides. Once everything is in place, tap the Play button to see your voiceovers in action.

There’s also a ‘Register Yourself’ button in Canva’s Upload panel. However, we were unable to get it to work during our tests.

How to Add Voiceover Presentations on Canva

Canva has a built-in way to add voiceovers to pre-made presentations. Of the many things to consider, you will need a room where you are not distracted to record sound. This is especially true if you don’t have a dedicated microphone and rely on your computer’s microphone.

You’ll also find fewer customization options, as it’s a workaround and not a direct app. Unfortunately, this means you can’t trim and change the recording in Canva for the web.

Now that the decision is made, let’s see how to add voiceovers to Canva presentations.

Stage 1: After adding all the finishing touches to the presentation, tap the three-dot menu in the far right corner.

Select ‘Present and Record’ from the list of options and then select Start Recording.

step 2: Naturally, you will need to allow audio. You can skip the camera permission for now, as we want the audio and not the video in this Canva presentation. When finished, press the Start recording button.

Now all you have to do is record your voice for all the slides. Slides with recorded audio are marked in red. So be sure to scroll through the slides as per the presenter’s request.

When you need to pause, click the Pause button above. In this way, you can skip a few slides that you do not want voice-over.

Stage 3: When the recording is complete, click the Done button in the upper right corner.

Depending on the length of the audio and the content of the presentation, the download may take time.

Besides the direct download, Canva gives you the option to directly copy and share the link of the presentation.
