It is difficult to imagine, especially for Brazilians, stoves that work without using cooking gas. Even with much more modern appliances, traditional models continue to be the favorites in our country.
Despite having been present in homes for decades, this product, so well-known for preparing food, has been the target of a possible ban that should start in the United States.
This is because stoves that use liquefied gas are among the products that emit the most polluting gases. Due to their daily use, the emission of such gases occurs daily.
When natural gas or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is burned, carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. These gases are responsible for the global warming and climate change we are currently experiencing.
Additionally, burning gas can release small amounts of air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), which contribute to air pollution and affect the quality of the air we breathe.
Options for replacing a gas stove
Electric stove
Electric stoves, of course, use electrical energy to heat the plates or coils on which the pans are placed. They are widely available and easy to use, but their environmental impact depends on the source of electricity generation in the region.
Therefore, if the energy comes from renewable sources, such as solar, wind or hydroelectric, the electric stove is a more sustainable option.
Induction Cooker
Induction cooktops use electromagnetic fields to directly heat metal pots or pans. They are highly efficient because they only heat the cooking vessel, reducing energy waste. However, they require specific cookware that is compatible with induction technology.
