Artificial intelligence technology (AI) advances faster and faster, and, consequently, news about the topic appears practically every day on the internet.
Recently, scientists from the Beijing General Artificial Intelligence Institute (BIGAI) reported that at the end of February they managed to develop something impressive.
Researchers have created a type of AI capable of simulating the behavior of a three-year-old child. Therefore, the system would even be able to sketch human emotions such as sadness, anger, love and joy.
How does the digital child operate?

The official name given to the digital child is ‘Tong Tong’, which means ‘little girl’ in Mandarin, a language spoken in China.
Thus, the platform operates in a 100% online ecosystem and interacts autonomously, even being capable of learning on its own, according to the project team’s claims.
An interesting demonstration took place at an event held in Beijing, where the AI was able to display a fraction of its ability to do simple tasks, such as cleaning up spilled milk or straightening a painting, without any explicit order needing to be given.
The developers claim that ‘Tong Tong’s’ autonomous ability to assign things to itself is an important evolution in relation to existing chatbots, for example, the ChatGPT and Bard, which require detailed directions to work.
BIGAI also promoted the so-called ‘Tong test’ as an alternative to the already used ‘Turing Test’ to measure the abilities of artificial intelligence in general.
While the second focuses on the indistinguishability of AI and a person talking, the first considers the system’s ability to learn and perform complex work.
Finally, like any invention still in its infancy, it is expected that over time new tools and resources will be added, further improving the functionalities of said creation. For now, the results already obtained are simply formidable!
