Android offers new cloud storage tool

One of the biggest fears for anyone nowadays is finding space on their smartphone. Many people suffer from this because apps are constantly updated and, as a result, the space required becomes increasingly larger.

In other words, in order to add new features to apps like Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp, you need to have more file space.

So how can you solve this problem without having to delete the apps on your smartphone? People often end up deleting apps that they use less or not at all. Or, in extreme cases, they need to upgrade to a model with a larger storage capacity.

Additionally, there is the possibility of installing a microSD card in your phone, which expands the available memory on your phone. However, not all applications allow storage on microSD, returning to the initial problem.

Google’s solution to the storage problem

Google is the company responsible for the Android software, which powers most smartphones on the market. In recent years, the system has been updated to automatically “deactivate” applications that are not being used, thus saving at least some space.

However, its latest update goes even further. This is because, in this update, the application will be present and absent on your smartphone at the same time. But what does this mean? Basically, Android will allow the user to archive part of their applications.

Therefore, the user will not lose any personal information in that application, such as passwords, settings, local data, among others.

Additionally, the app icon will still be on the smartphone, but it will be slightly darkened and will contain an image of a cloud with an arrow pointing down.

Therefore, when the user decides that they want to use that app again, they just need to click on it and the remaining files will be downloaded.

Logically, for this to work, the application needs to be available on the Play Store. After all, the app will be downloaded again and only the user’s information will be saved.

According to Google, this new possibility can free up to 60% of the storage space on smartphones that use it.
