After taking its first steps globally, Facebook Dating is finally coming to smartphones in Europe. Goal #1: “We help more people build meaningful relationships through commonalities like hobbies, activities, and groups.” Goal #2: Create a dating service that can compete with Tinder.
The service, currently available in around thirty European countries, is integrated directly into the Facebook application and allows you to create a profile in just a few clicks. Its functions allow you to: “Share your true self and have an authentic vision of the other person.”
The social network also cares about keeping its users safe by protecting their privacy or providing the ability to block other people. In fact, although the two are linked, your Facebook, Instagram and Dating profiles are not connected: none of your activity on the dating service will be published in the news feeds of your friends or followers.
Features designed for meetings
The service has a number of features designed to allow its users to meet new people, all while staying true to Facebook’s DNA. There are four main ones:
- storiesAs fans of the social network know well, it is possible to publish your Facebook and Instagram stories on your Dating profile. In this way, the social network invites its members to show, rather than tell, who they really are in order to connect with people interested in their profiles.
- Secret Crushing. Developed to help you find your soulmate, Secret Crush lets you consider a potential relationship with someone you follow on Facebook or Instagram. Dating lets you choose up to nine of your Facebook friends or Instagram followers. If they choose you, you’re a match. Please note that they will only be notified once they’ve created a Dating profile.
- events and groups.Dating offers the ability to add your Facebook events and groups to the service to find someone with similar interests. This way, you will be able to see everyone registered with Dating in these events and groups.
- Virtual Dates.Once you match with someone, you can start a video chat with them directly from the app. Handy in this time of physical distancing! To do this, simply click on the video icon in the chat. The person will receive an invitation and if accepted, the conversation can begin.
Facebook cares about security
I am aware “Finding a romantic partner is a very personal thing”The social network has made the security and protection of the privacy of its users a priority. “We’ve worked with experts in the field to provide easy access to safety tips and keep Dating users safe.”
In fact, it is possible to report and block someone, as well as block them from sending photos, links, payments and videos in chat. The social network also states that no Facebook connections will be presented as potential matches or notified of your registration to Dating. Your activity on the dating service will also not be visible on your public profile. “We are committed to making Facebook Dating a place where people feel comfortable seeking to build a valuable relationship. »
