Recently, an error in Google Pay’s payment system left many users very happy. This is because, in the United States, some of them unexpectedly received amounts between US$50 and US$1,000 in their digital wallets.
According to Google, this was not done intentionally. A Reddit user won one of the largest amounts. His digital wallet balance was $1,072, according to images that have since been removed from social media.
Through an email, Google informed the error to users who received some amount by mistake:
“You received this email because an unintentional cash credit was deposited into your Google Pay account. The issue has now been resolved and the credit will be reversed when possible.”the company communicated to users.
Will users need to return the money?
According to Google, those people who received the money and withdrew it for some reason will not need to return the amount. “If we can’t reverse the credit, the money is yours. No further action is necessary.”Google added in its statement.
Ultimately, using the money deposited by mistake will not result in any punishment for users, as this was due to a company error. Apparently, the bug occurred due to tests that the company is carrying out to add new features to the platform.
In this context, the money ended up being sent by mistake to users, as pointed out by security analyst Mishaal Rahman, who also received US$46 “as a gift” in his account.
Just like Apple Pay, through the Google app you can deposit and transfer money between accounts, as well as pay expenses via your cell phone.
According to Android Police, this error has now been resolved and the money has only been sent to users in the United States who, along with Singapore, still use Google Pay as opposed to Google Wallet, which has already been adopted worldwide.
