Find out why Gotham has so many crimes, in Harley Quinn’s view

Among the main motivations of superheroes, one of the most popular and already extensively explored in multiple media, is the reasons that lead Bruce Wayne to don the black cloak of the bat to hunt criminals on the cold nights of Gotham City.

As structured in his origin, the character seeks a way to satisfy his pain and his desire for revenge with the crime established in the city, which we already know, yet we do not know why crime in Gotham replicates like a plague.

And in fact, we can say that there are more crimes in the city than rats in its sewers, the answer to this was developed by the brilliant mind of Harleen Frances Quinzel, our famous Harley Quinn.

For those who don’t know the character well, Harley is a trained psychologist and worked for some time treating patients at Arkham Asylum, until she accidentally entered into a compulsive relationship and fell in love with the Joker. Later, she ended up becoming a partner in crime, becoming yet another thorn in Batman’s side, an extremely painful thorn, since allied with the Joker, the nuisance on the streets of Gotham became even greater.

Given his abilities and education, the character certainly wondered why there was so much crime in the city, until he ended up finding an assertive and extremely pertinent answer.

Recently in “Harleen” second issue, the character goes into detail about her hypothesis about the cause of the increase in crime in Gotham. And contrary to what many thought, it is not Batman who ends up attracting more villains and criminals to the streets, although the figure of the vigilante bat can serve as a great influence for distorted and problematic figures.

Harley’s response was a little more analytical, according to her deduction, part of the rise in crime is based on the constant attacks that the city suffers from its villains.

Harley explains that as a result of the terrorist attacks by Bane and Joker, the city’s citizens end up having their empathy capacity affected. This ends up becoming an easier path for those who want to commit some kind of crime, since the social moral factor would not be activated. In this way, a normal person with well-constructed values could end up committing any kind of crime and entering this dark world, just by losing their sense of empathy.

Batman has been fighting for almost a century in various comics to reduce crime in Gotham, and it turns out that the reason for the great increase may be due to these constant attacks from his own enemies. One solution would be to consult Dr. Harleen about the case and find out what her suggestions for a solution would be.
