Since the first gunpowder-based weapons appeared centuries ago, this previously unprecedented combat tool has evolved in several aspects, from the composition of its ammunition to its sizes, in addition to others having been created in different varieties.
In this sense, with the ever-increasing advancement of technology, such articles would present new perspectives for those who make frequent use of them. An example of this is the recent development of a weapon with Biometry.
Weapon recognition technology
You’ve probably heard of or used facial recognition and biometrics services on cell phones and other electronic devices. But now, imagine this service on weapons. That’s right!
The United States is a country known both for the plurality of types of weapons developed and for the ease with which the population has access to them.
Recently, some researchers created the Biofire Smart Gun. This weapon, still available to order, costs approximately R$7,300 and has a major difference: the Guardian Biometric Engine system.

This device is the first in the world to have an active lock via biometrics and facial recognition. This security mode guarantees owners that their devices will not be used inappropriately by other people.
The service works by integrating data collected from fingerprints and infrared lights that assess the identity of the person handling the weapon.
Something that guarantees even more security is that there is no type of network integrated into the system, such as Wi-Fi or GPS, which would allow criminals to collect data.
It works using a high-power, long-lasting lithium-ion battery. The charging source only needs to be changed after a few months, and it has a long operating time when used daily.
According to the developers, engineering techniques were applied that allow for great accuracy in reading the weapon with biometrics.
IN short, the creators claim that this safety can help reduce the number of accidents involving firearms, especially among children.
