Fun fact: THIS is the animal that kills the most people in the world

We know that humans are highly dangerous to other animals; after all, we are at the top of the food chain. However, which animal kills the most humans in the world?

The answer will definitely surprise you!

The damage of a small animal

Surprisingly, here we are talking about the well-known mosquito! These animals, according to Bill Gates’ blog, are considered the most deadly in the world. That’s why lions, orcas and sharks don’t even come close to them.

For comparison, sharks are responsible for an average of only 5 deaths per year. This is not even comparable to the number of deaths caused by mosquitoes, since the diseases transmitted by them kill millions of people.

This includes dengue fever, chikungunya and Zika virus, diseases endemic to our region. And this occurs because they are vectors of these diseases and many others.

When it comes to dengue, its four serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DEN-V 4) circulate throughout the Americas and generate many cases simultaneously. In addition, consecutive infections with different serotypes increase the risk of severe dengue and even death.

Here, we know the vector of these diseases by the name of Aedes aegypti. And unfortunately only Canada and mainland Chile are free of this animal so far.

Meanwhile, in other regions affected by diseases caused by these mosquitoes, the global incidence of infections has risen sharply, according to the latest research carried out this decade.

Importance of protecting yourself

In addition to the Aedes aegyptiwe need to be careful with all types of mosquitoes. For example: the mosquito of the genus Anopheles is the transmitter of malaria. Although this disease is less frequent in Brazil, its highest incidence of cases is concentrated in the Amazon region.

Unfortunately, these mosquitoes are very small and can go unnoticed. However, there are more favorable conditions for their reproduction and survival, so eliminating them would be the ideal scenario to eliminate these insects.

Still, measures can be taken, such as avoiding stagnant water in plant pots, water tanks and even bottle caps.

Finally, investing in window screens is a great solution to stay safe inside your home too.
