Facebook and Instagram will now have a tool to alert about missing children in Brazil

On August 30th, the Goal announced the launch of an alert system for cases of missing children in Brazil. These alerts will be directed to Facebook and Instagram users who are within 100 miles of the location where the child was last seen. The new feature is a partnership with the Ministry of Justice.

With the name of Amber Alertsthese notifications will appear on social media feeds, providing important details such as photos and descriptions of the clothes the children were wearing before they went missing.

Even though it already exists in more than 30 countries, the platform in Brazil had its pilot launch in the states of Ceará, Distrito Federal and Minas Gerais, with the idea of expansion in subsequent months.

Amber Alerts are already known in the United States

In other countries, such as the United States, Amber Alerts are already part of the routine of residents of numerous cities and states. In these places, when a child goes missing, alarms are triggered and text messages are sent to all numbers, with crucial information about the minor and the possible kidnapper.

Now, with this tool in Facebook and Instagram, an alert will be displayed to users, who will be able to click to access information about the case. This initiative aims to encourage people to collaborate in investigations, allowing them to provide valuable information to authorities.

Meta reinforces that Amber Alerts will be activated and triggered in critical situations of disappearance, such as suspicious cases or when there is an imminent risk of death or injury to the missing child. Collaboration with public authorities, including the Ministry of Justice, played a vital role in designing this initiative.

The teams of social media were properly trained to use the system, ensuring the effective distribution of alerts. The authorities hope that, in this way, the cases of disappearances will decrease and that many of them will have happy endings.
