Would you study? University offers ‘digital influencer’ degree

The profession of influencer digital has gained increasing popularity over the years. This is because many people, both women and men, aspire to earn a living by working from the comfort of their homes or anywhere.

The South East Technological University of Ireland has opened this educational program aimed at people who want to make a living as digital influencers. This course can now even be found on LinkedIn.

The maximum number of students for the first class is 40 people, as informed by BBC, and its duration is up to four years. The course curriculum covers business skills, video and audio editing, critical cultural studies, as well as creative writing.

And if you are already interested in studying these contents, get ready: registrations begin next month, in November this year, with the first class expected to begin in September 2024.

Based on its curriculum, it can be seen that this is in fact a course very similar to Marketing or Advertising, but the focus will be on social media and in the influencer’s own personal image.

Therefore, despite being similar, the dynamics will be different. To the portal The Washington Postuniversity professor Irene McCormick said the following:

“We knew there was space for this and a need for it, we just needed to transform the course into a bachelor’s degree and ratify it.”

Positive and negative opinions

The post on LinkedIn presents several positive comments about the course and many people thought it was a great idea, as it is an area with a lot of demand.

However, other people commented otherwise and thought that the university should not open a course on this, but rather on how to create content for value.

However, there is no denying that it is a growing area and that there are already many people earning a living working in this activity.
