Unsurprisingly, Google may therefore raise the bar a step higher with Android 14, the first beta version of which has been available for a few days now. Indeed, our colleagues at 9to5Google have revealed a new option in the operating system settings that brings a feature users have been waiting for for a long time: the ability to customize lock screens.
Android 14 adds customization options but still limited
The most observant will not notice that this feature comes a year after iOS 16, which also introduced the possibility of customizing the lock screen. So we know where the inspiration comes from, although there is still some progress to be made. The options available for now are far from being on par with the options Apple allows.
According to information found by 9to5Google, the functionality currently only allows customizing the watch’s appearance from the parameters of this watch. Concretely, it is possible to choose its color, size and brightness from the screen. For now, the functionality is therefore still a bit light.
Therefore, we hope that Google will increase this in the coming weeks, for example, by integrating widgets. The launch of Android 14 is not scheduled at least before the end of August, the Mountain View company has plenty of time to develop the option if the response from users is positive.
