Twitter, through its official channels, announced that starting April 1st it would end verified campaigns on the social network. Therefore, only those who pay for the Twitter Blue will be entitled to the blue seal in the bird app.
Elon Musk’s idea didn’t please Twitter users, who said they wouldn’t spend the $8 (R$40 per month) to keep their account verified. Among these people is one of the network’s most popular personalities: NBA star LeBron James.
He spoke about this decision on March 31, one day before the new policy came into effect. Check out the basketball player’s tweet that got a lot of people interacting with the post:
Welp guess my blue ✔️ will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5. 🤷🏾♂️

“Well, I guess my blue ✔️ will be gone soon because if you know me, you know I’m not paying the 5.”
After taking over Twitter, Elon Musk revealed one of his plans for the social network, which is Twitter Blue. Those who pay for the subscription are entitled to several exclusive points on the site. Among them, the right to have a verification seal on their account.
After tweeting his opinion, LeBron James received over 70,000 likes within the first hour of posting. The NBA player currently has over 55 million followers, making him one of the most popular people on Twitter.
Another famous personality who said he will not pay for the verified badge is Patrick Mahomes. The famous NFL player claimed that he will not pay for the verification because he has children to raise. Remember that Mahomes is the fourth highest-paid player in the American football league.
Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter
For those who don’t remember, Musk bought the company for US$44 million (around R$223 million) in October of last year. When he took over as CEO of the company, several changes began to be made to the social network.
Among them, there were mass layoffs, and the few remaining employees even had to sleep in Twitter’s offices. In addition, Musk recently revealed that only those who pay for Twitter Blue will have posts featured and the right to vote in polls on the network.
