Why Are My WhatsApp Messages Automatically Deleted?

WhatsApp now lets you delete sent messages. Maybe the other person deleted it or is using lost messages on WhatsApp. Here are three reasons why your WhatsApp messages are automatically deleted.

1. Disappearing Messages Option Enabled

This option is very useful in WhatsApp groups. You can use the Disappearing Messages function in personal chat. When the Disappearing Messages option is enabled, WhatsApp will make new messages disappear from the selected chat after 7 days. Recipients can still save these messages elsewhere. Anyone in this chat can change the settings.

If you have Disappearing Messages enabled in a particular WhatsApp chat, you will see the messages are automatically deleted after seven days. You can turn the option off as follows.

Stage 1: Open WhatsApp on your phone.

Step 2: Select a conversation from which messages will be automatically removed.

Stage 3: Tap the WhatsApp contact name at the top.

Step 4: Scroll down from the Contact Information menu and select Disappearing Messages.

2. Other Person Deletes Messages

WhatsApp allows users to delete messages within an hour. Let’s say you sent the message in the wrong chat or group, or you made an embarrassing typo; You can easily delete the message from both sides.

When this feature was introduced, WhatsApp gave up to seven minutes to delete a message. Later, the company increased the time zone to one hour, and now the company plans to push the limit to infinite time.

That is, anyone can delete the sent message. Not as good as Telegram, which does not leave a trace of deleted messages. You will see a notification when someone tries to delete a message on WhatsApp. Here is how a person deletes their WhatsApp messages.

Stage 1: Open WhatsApp on your mobile or desktop and open any conversation.

Select a message sent within the last hour. You will see an option to delete messages for everyone. Tap on it and confirm your decision. WhatsApp will show that the message has been deleted on both sides of the conversation.

3. Senders Use the View Once Option

WhatsApp has implemented an option to send sensitive images as View Once. Users can select View Once before sending an image, and it will not show the image preview in chat.

You can see the preview when you try to open such images in WhatsApp, and the media will disappear when you return to the home screen. You no longer have the option to access the image. Media is automatically deleted from chat and WhatsApp servers. Here’s how you can use View Once on WhatsApp.

Stage 1: Open a conversation in WhatsApp where you want to send the image as a View Once.

Step 2: Tap the + icon and select an image from the gallery.

Stage 3: From the WhatsApp image editing interface, tap the 1 button in the message at the bottom.

Step 4: Hit the submit button and the entire image is set to display only once.

Export WhatsApp Chat

Are you worried that future WhatsApp messages will be deleted with these functions? You can always take screenshots of the conversation as a kind of proof, but this is time consuming and not a viable option. Instead, you can export the WhatsApp chat as a zip file and save it elsewhere. Here’s how.

Stage 1: Open the WhatsApp conversation you want to backup.

Step 2: Tap the contact name at the top.

Stage 3: In the contact info menu, scroll down and select Export Chat.

WhatsApp will quickly create a zip file containing all the data and save the file to your phone.
