Electricity Maps emerges as an innovative tool to overcome these barriers, offering a real-time approach to identifying the origin of electricity and its associated emissions.

The initiative reveals itself as a revolutionary solution to understand and face the challenges of carbon emissions on a global scale.

In this sense, Electricity Maps overcomes challenges by using official sources and a predictive component to identify in real time the origin of electricity and carbon emissions in various regions.

The interactive map offers information beyond the simple representation of the energy matrix, such as:

  • Real-time electricity production by source;
  • Real-time electricity consumption by source;
  • Carbon dioxide emissions from different sources into the atmosphere;
  • Percentage share of each source in energy matrix;
  • Current production compared to total installed capacity;
  • Availability of wind and solar energy in different regions at specific times;
  • Electricity import/export transactions between countries and regions;
  • Various graphs with historical data from the last seven years.

‘Estimates’ labels ensure transparency by indicating the nature of the data in each region.
