Simple text signatures are often overlooked after tracking email body text. That’s why adding logos or a custom image helps improve the signature of your email. Unfortunately, many Gmail users are unable to use an image in their signature. Are you facing the same issue? Check out eight ways to fix Gmail signature image not working.
Gmail users face different kinds of issues with signature images. For some users, the image disappears completely, and for others, a question mark appears instead of the image. Other issues include not being able to add an image without including the URL, and the signature image appearing as an attachment.
Let’s check out various ways to fix the issue when Gmail signature image is not showing.
1. Check Required Conditions
Image signatures are not shown for emails sent from Android and iPhone/iPad Gmail apps. Mobile apps only support text signature. And you need to set it up separately from Gmail apps by going to Settings > your account > Signature.
Therefore, the fixes below will only be based on the web version of Gmail.
2. Use Correct Steps to Add Image to Signature
As mentioned above, you can only add a picture from a computer to your signature. So open gmail.com and login to your account. Click the Settings icon at the top and select See all settings.
Under General setting, scroll down and you will see the Signature section. Click the create new button.
In the box on the right, press the Add Image icon from the toolbar to add an image to your signature.
The Add image window will open. Here you can add images from multiple locations – Google Drive, Upload from your computer and Web address. Select your preferred type and press the Select button.
You will be taken back to the signature section. Here you can change the size of the image and create a hyperlink to your signature image. Finally, scroll down and hit the Save changes button. Now when you compose an email from a PC, you will see the image in your signature.
3. Copy-Paste Image
For some Gmail users, the option to upload pictures from Drive or your computer is not visible. All they see is the Image URL option.
If this happens to you too, if you don’t want to use the link option, you can try the copy-paste method to add an image to your signature. This solution has worked for many Gmail users.
There are two ways to do this. First, right-click on the required image and select Copy image from the menu.
Then go to Signature section in Gmail settings. Right-click on the signature box and press Paste.
Alternatively, compose a new email and copy and paste the image into the body of the email. Do not include the picture. Just copy-paste. Then send the email to yourself.
After you receive the sent email, open it and right-click on the image in the email. Press copy image. Then go to the signature creation screen in Gmail and paste the image directly into your signature. Save Changes.
4. Use Correct Link to Add Picture
When adding the URL of the image, users often add the wrong links. Basically, you need to include the image address, not the link to the page containing the image.
To get the correct URL for your image, right-click on the image and select Copy image address.
Alternatively, right-click on the image and select Open image in new tab. Then copy the URL shown in the address bar. Paste the address copied from either of the two methods into the URL section of the Add picture window of Gmail Signature. This should get the correct image.
5. Select the Right Signature
In case you create multiple signatures in Gmail, you can set a default signature or choose a picture one when composing an email.
To do the latter, compose an email in Gmail. When the new message window appears, click on the Pen icon in the toolbar at the bottom. You will see a list of your signatures. Choose the one you want to use.
6. Disable Plain Text Mode
If Plain text mode is enabled for the Gmail compose screen, you will not see the image in your signature. That’s why you need to disable it. To do this, click the Create button to open the New message window. Then click the three-dot icon at the bottom of the New Message window. If you see a checkmark icon next to plain text mode, it means it’s enabled. Click on it to disable it.
Close the window and click the Create button to restart. Hopefully, your signature image will appear.
7. Grant Share Permission for Drive Image
Usually, when you add an image from Google Drive to Gmail’s signature, its privacy automatically changes to ‘Anyone can see this’. However, sometimes this may not happen. That’s why you can see a question mark icon. Therefore, you will have to manually change the permission. You can learn more about Google Drive sharing permissions.
For this, open Google Drive and right click on the image. Select Share from the menu. Change the permission mode to ‘Anyone with the link’ and it can view the file. You can now select the image directly from the Drive folders that appear in Gmail’s signature window, or copy and paste the image link when you click the Add image option.
Note: Do not delete images from your Google Drive while they are used in your signature. Also, if you have a work or school Gmail account, you should contact your administrator to share Drive pictures publicly.
8. Sign Out of Gmail Account
To troubleshoot signature image issues, you must sign out of your Gmail account. If multiple Google accounts are added, sign out of all of them. Then create a signature.
Alternatively, open Gmail in your browser’s incognito mode or try a different browser to add an image to your signature.
Protect Your Image
This is how you fix and install an appropriate image in your Gmail signature. If you’re using images from an external source for the Gmail signature, make sure the images are still live. If the image is deleted or the URL is changed, it will not appear in your signature. Best practice would be to add an image directly from your computer or your own Google Drive account.
