Recently, the Netflix has announced that it will charge extra fees to users who are caught sharing their passwords with friends and family.
This measure is already in effect in other countries where the platform is present, and will now also be applied in Brazil. The additional fee will be R$12.90 per month, added to the value of the plan paid by the user.
However, the news was not well received by all Netflix subscribers. Many of them were unhappy with the new policy and chose to cancel their subscriptions, migrating to other streaming platforms available on the market. Even so, the company remained firm with the decision.
Procon has been the users’ greatest ally
Faced with this situation, some dissatisfied users notified the Procon in several states. The institution is responsible for guaranteeing consumer rights in Brazil. One of the Procons that received the most notifications was the one in São Paulo, which requested clarification from Netflix on the matter.
In response to the request, the company said it would send emails to users with more information about the new policy. In addition, a meeting was held between representatives of the streaming platform and members of Procon São Paulo last Thursday, June 1st.
However, during this meeting, the information provided by Netflix was not considered satisfactory by Procon-SP. In view of this, the institution requested that the company provide additional information in order to fully clarify the situation and guarantee consumer rights.
All this complication between Netflix and Procon is caused due to the misunderstanding of the subject on the part of users, who do not have knowledge about how Netflix will find out whether or not users are sharing their passwords.
Furthermore, consumers want to stay informed so as not to be harmed by the new charges.
