Science tries to explain: only one of the twins is sick, but her sister has the same symptoms

In both science fiction films and real studies, many findings confirm a connection between people who are twins. They not only share genetic material, but in many cases, feelings and sensations.

However, not all of these relationships are explained by scientists and a recent case between two sick twin sisters with the same symptoms proves this.

Identical twins with the same symptoms

Cases of gene sharing between babies are one of the most fascinating scientific facts for some researchers. While some can be explained, others are still a mystery to doctors. One such example is the case in which two twin sisters experience the same symptoms, even though only one is actually sick.

Megan and Sophie are Scottish twin sisters from a family of eight siblings. When they were just 10 years old, they both began to experience symptoms such as pain in the lower back and abdominal area.

The girls had lost weight and had hypochromic mucous membranes. During the investigation, the doctors identified the presence of a tumor named “Wilms”, which was located in the abdomen.

However, only one of the girls, Sophie, actually presented the cancer. In 2017, she started chemotherapy and over the years she remained in remission twice.

Meanwhile, doctors continued to investigate the causes of Megan’s symptoms.

The family says they remained concerned both with Sophie’s diagnosis and with the lack of answers for all the similar pain Megan was feeling.

Pain that, according to the girls’ mother, Rebecca, continued over the years even without any associated illness.

During her last visit to the doctor, Sophie’s cancer returned, this time in her spine. This relapse left her sisters very upset and suffering from depression and anxiety.

Megan underwent new tests this year to confirm that there was no cause for her symptoms, and once again, the MRI confirmed that there was no justification for such symptoms.

The family is now seeking financial help to carry out proton therapy on Sophie in the United States.

Regarding Megan, doctors concluded that they were sharing all the symptoms of the disease precisely because of their connection as identical twins.
