Public utility: website reveals whether any of your images have been used by AIs

There has been a surge in news recently involving artificial intelligence, especially those about ChatGPT. It is unlikely that you have not heard something about them and their large amount of information and ability to develop texts.

However, one issue that has been the subject of much controversy regarding AIs is the creation of images. This is because AIs such as Midjourney and DALL-E 2 were developed for the automatic creation of images.

To do this, the user simply needs to describe the image they want, and it will be digitally assembled by the AI. Logically, the more details in the description, the closer the desired result will be.

However, many artists are upset about using these platforms, as they may even lose jobs or competitions due to artificial images.

So, there is a lot of debate around this, especially considering that the images used to train these AIs are often of the artists themselves. So, how can we solve this problem? The website “Have I Been Trained” seems to have found a way to solve the situation.

What is ‘Have I Been Trained’ and how do I use it?

Logically, AIs are trained in some way, after all, no matter how sophisticated the systems are, they are not capable of thinking for themselves, only of better understanding what is presented to them.

So how does the training happen? These AIs are subjected to databases containing millions of images, as well as their descriptions. In this way, they can understand what the user wants, and thus create a new image.

However, as already mentioned, not everyone wants to have their images used by these training banks. The most widely used of these is the bank named “LAION-5B”, which trains the Midjourney and DALL-E 2 AIs.

Therefore, the “Have I Been Trained” website has access to this database and allows the user to search using an image or text to find out if something of their authorship is present in LAION-5B. If it is, the user simply needs to right-click on the image and send it to the “My Opt-Outs” folder.

After that, simply click on the icon corresponding to your account (which you will need to create in order to access the website) and access the folder mentioned above. In it, right-click on your image again and select “Remove from My Opt-Out”. Then, the moderators of the company LAION will remove the image from the database.

To access the page, simply click on this link. After that, click on the green button in the upper right corner, which says “Sign In”. When the Login pop-up opens, in the “Sign Up” option, enter your email and password, and that’s it. You will be registered and will be able to search for any of your images in the database, completely free of charge.
