Now, the company has announced even more ambitious plans: by the year 2050, it plans to take around a thousand people to the planet Venus. Venus is the planet known for its atmosphere rich in carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid rains, as well as for having an atmospheric pressure 90 times greater than that of Earth. In this sense, the idea that around a thousand people could get there is not at all exciting for the public.
However, Söhnlein argued that the challenge is similar to that of Elon Musk, who plans to colonize Mars. To overcome the unlikely conditions on Venus, OceanGate plans to develop a base that can withstand the planet’s acid rain and can accommodate aircraft. This is an extremely complex engineering challenge that, if overcome, will represent a milestone in space exploration.
