New conformation of the Earth

A few million years ago, approximately between the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, the distribution of land on the planet was different from what we know today. All the continentswhich today are divided by large expanses of seas and oceans, were interconnected as a unit.

In this context, some scholars claim that this conformation may soon be resumed with the future union of the continents.

The separation that exists today was due to the movement of tectonic plates, which continues to this day. However, this movement is less noticeable, as it occurs on a smaller scale. Based on this principle, there are some scholars who believe in the possibility of a rapprochement of the lands, which would occur progressively over approximately 250 million years.

After research carried out by the Paleomap Project, scholar Chris Scotese released this hypothesis of Earth unity. In this sense, to make it easier to visualize what the result of this process would be, an account on the social network Reddit published a future map of what would be the so-called “Next Pangea”.

The image demonstrates what the world would be like after this rapprochement, and many Internet users wondered about the benefits and also the consequences that this change would generate for humanity. One of the first points to be considered is the reduction in distance between populations and shorter trips.

If this hypothesis comes to fruition, the world 250 million years from now will bear more resemblance to the ancient planet than to our current reality, which is difficult to imagine.
