The controversy over extra fees for subscribers who share their Netflix account continues. After the platform’s official announcement, many users criticized the decision and threatened to leave the streaming service.
However, the North American service did not pay much attention to the complaints and remained firm in its decision, even with the large drop in paying users since April 2022.
Thus, the streaming service maintained the additional charge, which arrived in Brazil last Tuesday (23/5). The company sent a statement to its subscribers via email.
The statement was intended to explain the new rules to all users. However, the case caused outrage and unrest among many Brazilians who enjoy binge-watching a good series.
Understand the new rate
If you share your account with another person who does not live in the same house, that is, they use the same login in different locations, from now on, they will have to pay a fee of R$12.90 in addition to the value of the subscribed plan.
According to the streaming platform, “the Netflix account must be used by a single household”. Therefore, accesses registered outside the main address will be considered improper.
Twitter buzz
And as we already know, when there is widespread outrage, the “dispute” ends up on Twitter. Thus, the social network was invaded by comments from outraged users and tips on how to access other streaming services at lower prices.
An advertiser made a post showing a calculation he made, for example. The calculation in question was intended to compare the price of a single Netflix plan used by three other people with other platforms that can be subscribed to together for the same price or even at a discount.
However, according to the advertiser’s post, to get a good discount (on other streaming services), you need to subscribe to a shopping site to have access to promotions on the monthly fee for each service and reach the same price. Currently, the plan can cost up to R$94.51 per month.
And after that, chaos took over. There was no other topic of conversation on Twitter in the last few days, everyone started giving their opinion. In addition, the companies mentioned thanked the “remembering” and took the opportunity to reinforce the publicity.
If you subscribe to Netflix 4 Screens and share it with 3 other people, the final price will be R$94.60/month. Do you know what you can subscribe to with this amount?

Procon notifies Netflix
And, to Netflix’s “joy”, another problem has arisen due to this whole controversy over extra fees. This is because, last Wednesday (24/5), the company was notified by Procon-SP.
The agency has registered numerous complaints from consumers about the new additional charging policy. According to the agency itself, the notification aims to understand whether the conduct violates the Consumer Protection Code and what is announced to subscribers.
