A tire bicycle made with a differentiated technology that makes it last forever. This is the promise of The Smart Tire Company, the company responsible for Metl, a tire that features a modern composition that makes it indestructible. Can we really believe it?
The Metl material was developed by NASA and was made from nitilol, a flexible nickel and titanium alloy. Due to the use of this material, the tire tends to last a lifetime, as it withstands the most adverse conditions such as intense heat and other factors and is therefore incredibly durable.

Understand how the ‘super tire’ works
Metl has been developed by The Smart Tire Company. The company’s intention is to provide consumers with a smooth and light ride, with durability and handling superior to anything seen on the market to date. To this end, the company continues to seek to create a differentiated product.
Each tire weighs around 400 grams and they all have coils that can be colored or transparent. Furthermore, the company that created the product guarantees that it is easy to install on common road bicycles.
Even with the memory metal alloy construction, the tires have grip as a result of a tread integrated into them. This material is capable of running for around 13 thousand km according to the manufacturer.
After this period, an exchange is required. To do this, the consumer must pay US$10 per tire.

Initially, the tire cannot yet be found in more popular stores. It has only been sold on a crowdfunding platform called Kickstarter. For now, a pair costs US$500, approximately 2,445 reais, without the addition of taxes.
The product will also be sold in pre-molded packages that will include rims made from carbon or aluminum. In this sense, the value rises to US$2,300 and US$1,300 respectively.
The website TheVerge, in turn, pointed to the fact that the prices are almost ten times more expensive than common bicycle tires in the United States. However, it’s interesting to think about the main promise: this is literally a lifetime investment.
It is believed that Metl will be ready to be sold in June 2024. Everything will depend on the result of the crowdfunding campaign, carried out in favor of the launch of the product.
Finally, The Smart Company also intends to launch other versions of the Metl, in different sizes and also adapted for mountain and eBikes.
