As for screenshots, Telegram for Android can also block screenshots inside Secret Chat. Although iOS users can take screenshots, it will send a notification to the person each time a screenshot is taken.

How to Start a Secret Chat on Telegram

First, let’s see how you can start a Secret Chat in Telegram on Android and iOS.

on Android

Stage 1: Open the Telegram app on your Android device. Now tap the create button in the lower right corner and select the New Secret Chat option.

Step 2: Then select any contact from your contact list to start Secret Chat.

Alternatively, you can start a Secret Chat from any of your existing conversations. To do this, open the chat of the person you want to start the Secret Chat with.

Now use the three-dot menu at the top and select Start Secret Chat. Finally, click Start when prompted.

on iOS

Starting a Secret Chat in Telegram for iOS is a slightly different experience than on Android. Here’s how to do it.

Stage 1: Launch the Telegram app on your iPhone or iPad. Now switch to the People tab and select any of your contacts.

Step 2: On the contact’s profile, tap the More button to select Start Secret Chat.

And that’s it. You have now started your Secret Chat with that person.

How to Send Self-Destructive Messages in Telegram’s Secret Chat

Telegram also allows you to send Self-Destructive messages in your Secret Chat to add an extra layer of security. All you have to do is set a timer and your messages will disappear from the chat. You can set it anywhere from a second to a week.

Tap the clock icon in the profile picture at the top to send a self-destructing message in Secret Chat. Set the Self-Destruct Timer and tap on Done.

on iOS

Tap the clock icon in the text box to send a self-harming message in Secret Chat. Select a time for the self-destruct message and tap Done.

When you enable this option, Telegram will delete all messages, files, photos or videos on both devices (sender and recipient) after the specified time.

Self-destruct messaging is currently a feature exclusive to Secret Chat on Telegram. So, if you want to send such self-destructing messages in a regular chat on Telegram, you are unfortunately out of luck.

How to End Secret Chat on Telegram

If you no longer need to chat in privacy and you want to end or cancel your Secret Chat, your only option is to delete the entire conversation. Here’s how to do it.

on Android

Stage 1: Go to Secret Chat in Telegram. Now long tap on the chat and tap the delete icon from the top toolbar.

Step 2: Tap on Delete Chat to confirm.

on iOS

Stage 1: Open the Telegram app on your iPhone. Now swipe left on Secret Chat conversation and tap on Delete button.

Step 2: Tap ‘Delete My name and Recipient’s name’ to confirm.

This much. Telegram will delete all Secret Chat conversation without trace.
