You can always use Screen Time function on Android and iPhone to reduce your Instagram addiction. But this is more of a temporary lockdown on your Instagram usage. Plus, it’s super easy to beat the time limit and get some extra time browsing the Instagram feed.
You can also temporarily disable your Instagram account, but that will not serve the purpose either. Instead, it keeps the door open for you to come back to the same Instagram addiction in the future.
You can easily activate your Instagram account by logging in again. The permanent solution is to delete the Instagram account once and for all. Here’s how to delete your Instagram account on the web.
Things to Consider Before Deleting an Instagram Account
Before we continue and delete your Instagram account, let us warn you about the possible consequences.
When you delete your Instagram account, your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes and followers are permanently removed. Even if you create a new Instagram account with the same username in the future, the previous number of followers, photos, likes, etc.

If you want to take a temporary hiatus from Instagram, you can deactivate your account at any time instead. That way, you won’t lose your data and other details in the app.
After deleting your Instagram account, you can try to register again with the same username as long as it is not taken by another user.
Finally, you cannot delete your account using the Instagram mobile apps. You will need to use the Instagram web browser or mobile browser to delete your account.
Download Your Instagram Data
As we mentioned above, when you delete your Instagram account, it removes all data including photos and posts. Before proceeding to the Instagram delete option, you can use Instagram’s Data Download tool and save this information.
Follow the steps below to download your Instagram data from the web.
Stage 1: Visit Instagram on the web and sign in using your account credentials.
Step 2: From the Instagram home page, click on the profile menu in the upper right corner.

Stage 3: Select settings.

Step 4: Go to Privacy & Security from the left sidebar.

Step 5: Scroll down and find Data Download option.
Step 6: Select Request Download.

Step 7: Instagram will confirm your email id from which you want to receive the information. Choose the information format as HTML or JSON.

Step 8: Enter your Instagram password from the menu below and select Request Download.

Wait for a while and Instagram will email you a corresponding file with all the account details.
Now that you have all your posts and pictures on Instagram, you can permanently delete the account.
Delete Instagram Account
For security reasons, you cannot ask Instagram to delete an account for you. Instead, you will need to log into your account to request deletion.
Stage 1: Open Instagram on the web and sign in to your account with a username and password.
Unfortunately, there is no way to delete an Instagram account from the Settings page or the Profile menu. Instagram has created more confusion by creating a special page for deleting the Instagram account.
Step 2: Go to the Delete Your Account page on your computer. Since you’re already logged into Instagram with the browser, you’ll see your account name listed at the top.

Stage 3: Instagram will ask you why you want to delete the account question. Choose a relevant answer.

Step 4: Re-enter your Instagram password and use the Delete button below to completely remove your ID from your Instagram account.

You can follow the same steps in mobile browser to delete an Instagram account on your phone.
Instagram deletes your profile and account after 30 days. You won’t be visible on Instagram between now and then. If you change your mind within a month, you can log back in and choose to keep your account before the deletion date.
