Instagram has finally introduced the much-anticipated Collab feature that lets you team up with friends while sharing posts and Reels. This definitely makes things easier as you don’t need to share the same post from two separate accounts, while also allowing you to reach a wider audience.
Unlike tagging, you can only collaborate with one person other than yourself. We’ll show you how the collaboration feature works and how you can send, accept and receive Collaboration invitations on Instagram. So, without further ado, let’s get straight to the point.
How to Send Collaboration Invitation on Instagram
To send a Collab invite on Instagram, you must use a public account. However, you can collaborate with the person even if their account is private.
Other than that, here’s how to send a collaboration to invite to Instagram from your phone.
Stage 1: Launch the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone and tap the + plus icon in the top right corner to create a new post.

Step 2: Now select the media you want to upload collaboratively and tap Right Arrow. Edit your post as usual and tap Right Arrow again.

Stage 3: Now go to Tag People option.

Step 4: Tap Invite Collaborator and use the search box that appears to find the user you want to invite to Collaboration with.

note: If your account is private, you won’t get the ‘Invite Common Friend’ option.
Step 5: Once added you will see their name appear as Collaborator. If you accidentally selected the wrong account, you can tap the Edit Collaborator button. Finally, review your post details and click the right checkmark at the top right to publish your post.

As soon as the post is published, the other person receives the Collaboration invitation via Direct Message and can accept the submitted Collaboration invitation from there.
How to Accept or Decline a Collaboration Invitation on Instagram
Once you receive the collaboration invite, here’s how to view and respond to the Collaboration invite on Instagram.
Stage 1: Open the Direct Message you received on Instagram. Tap View Invitation to see the post you received the collaboration request from.

Step 2: Now tap the Review button to respond to this invitation. You can accept or decline the request here.

Once you accept the request, the post will be shared with all your followers and will also appear on your profile.
How to Cancel a Collaboration Invite on Instagram
If you no longer want to collaborate with the person, or if you sent the collaboration request to the wrong person, you can also cancel the collaboration request on Instagram by simply removing the tags from the post. Read on to find out how.
Stage 1: Go to your collaborative post on Instagram. Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right and select Edit from the menu that appears.

Step 2: Here, tap on the ‘N People’ option in the bottom left. Now tap the cross icon next to the invitee’s name to untag them and cancel the collaboration invite.

Stage 3: Finally, tap the checkmark on the right to save the changes.

This much. The invited person will no longer see the invite. However, they will see the post you sent the invitation to as a direct message.
How to Remove Yourself from Collaborative Posts on Instagram
If you want to end your collaboration and stop sharing the post from your profile, you can easily remove yourself from the collaborative post.
To remove yourself from a co-post on Instagram, go to the co-post. Now tap on the three-dot menu icon in the top right and select Stop Sharing from the list. When prompted, tap Stop Sharing again.

Once complete, Instagram will remove your name from the collaboration and delete the post from your profile.
