Everyone who currently uses social media has one thing in common: data leaks. However, recent news has confirmed that Facebook will compensate users who had their data leaked.

Facebook is one of the largest social networks and, through user accounts, it is possible to access basic information, from full name to cell phone number or email. In addition, it is possible to follow all of a person’s interests and contacts just by accessing their account.

For this reason, there are several factors that try to prevent the leaking of this information, which is not always possible. A recent case of leaking Facebook user data went to court. This is because the data was improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica.

The authorities then ordered the payment of R$3.5 billion to the people whose information was leaked. The number of users affected could reach 87 million.

To make the payment, the company will check the accounts affected by the leak. An important detail about the payment by Facebook to users whose data was leaked is that only people who logged into their accounts in the United States will receive the amount. The specific period of access to the accounts is between May 2007 and December 2022.

In addition, users who have identified any harm due to this situation must fill out a document to formalize the complaint. To do so, everyone has only until August 25, 2023.

It is worth noting that people who request the amount will have to pay some fees related to the process, which may affect the total amount received.

There is also the possibility of denying the amount of compensation offered and filing a new claim in court.
