As technology evolves, new tools are created in a wide range of areas. Aiming for innovation and usefulness, large technology companies create resources capable of helping users solve problems that we never imagined they could help with.

The health sector, for example, has made considerable progress and more and more people are using the internet as a source of information to research possible diagnoses for a given symptom.

That’s why Google, the world’s largest search engine, has added a new feature to its catalog to make it easier to search for and understand certain health problems.

Google recently added a feature to its system that more closely resembles a remote doctor’s appointment. This week, Google Search senior director Lou Wang introduced Google Lens’ dermatologist feature.

Google Lens is a search engine tool that uses artificial intelligence to recognize objects, plants, animals and other things using only the camera or a photo to search and present results.

You can now search for skin conditions like moles, warts, bruises, rashes and even hair loss on the platform. Wang explains:

“Just take a photo or upload a photo through Lens and you’ll find visual matches to inform your search. This feature also works if you’re not sure how to describe something else on your body.”

In addition to providing an idea of diagnosis, the tool provides general information about the disease. For recognition and diagnosis, Google Lens uses an online database with several photos and, based on comparison and analysis, presents the results.

However, although the tech giant’s improvements may be somewhat accurate, it is important to note that these results should not be fully relied upon. Therefore, the best option is still to see a doctor to obtain a complete diagnosis and start treatment if necessary.
