You are certainly familiar with the Doppler effect. Even if you don’t know the theory, you have seen it in practice. This occurs quite regularly when there is a change in the frequency of a sound or electromagnetic wave due to the relative movement between the observer and the emitting source.
Now, big cities are implementing this idea in vehicle radars found on the streets. This allows speed monitoring before and after the location of the equipment, instead of just at the location, as with the old devices. Below, learn how the new objects work!

What is the difference between the new radars?
When a vehicle approaches and then moves away, you may notice a change in the pitch of the sound. This is known as the Doppler effect, and its application extends beyond sound to virtually everything.
Using radars allows you to catch some drivers, those who like to brake on top of the radar to avoid getting fined. This way, it will no longer be possible to brake when you are about to pass the radar and then accelerate again, which is a very common practice.
These devices already exist in Brazil, in cities such as Curitiba and São Paulo, and it is believed that this technology will expand and other locations will adopt the sensors.
Despite this, in Curitiba, inspections are still carried out at just one point, in the same way as it was done in the past, even with this new technology!
However, it seems to be a new and interesting way of measuring the speed of vehicles passing through the streets. This makes it easier to identify those who have the habit of braking close to the radar. After all, this type of practice, even though it seems harmless, can cause problems and accidents.
Finally, there is still no information on when this new technology may arrive, but it is good to keep an eye out. Mainly to avoid unnecessary fines and dangers on the road.
