You scientists announced the discovery of the brightest object ever detected in outer space.
J0529-4351, identified as a quasar, represents the luminous core of a galaxy driven by a colossal black hole, approximately 17 billion times the mass of our Sun.
The data was recorded by observations from Chile’s Very Large Telescope (VLT).

According to an article published in the scientific journal Nature Astronomy, the black hole that is feeding J0529-4351 demonstrates an insatiable appetite.
It consumes the mass equivalent of a sun every day. Despite being recorded many years ago, its true greatness has only now been recognized.
“It is a surprise that it has remained unknown until today, when we already know about a million less impressive quasars. He was literally right under our noses until now.”

What makes a quasar so bright?
The concept of a quasar describes a galaxy with a highly active, energetic nucleus. The black hole at the center of this galaxy attracts matter towards itself at incredible speed and, in the process, emits an enormous amount of light.
This makes the quasar visible to us despite the great distance. The radiation from this particular quasar took 12 billion years to reach the VLT telescope’s detectors.
Surprising finding about Quasar J0529-4351
“All this light comes from a hot accretion disk that measures seven light years across. This must be the largest accretion disk in the cosmos,” says Samuel Lai, ANU PhD student and co-author of the study.
Seven light years correspond to about 15 thousand times the distance from the Sun to the orbit of Neptune. Therefore, every aspect about this object, Quasar J0529-4351, is surprisingly huge.
This discovery sheds new light on our understanding of universedemonstrating the existence of phenomena even more fantastic and grand than anyone could imagine.
