Given this scenario, companies around the world adopted a flexible approach, allowing their employees to carry out their activities from their homes.
Soon after, with the gradual resumption of in-person activities, discussions about the future of work and the impacts of this transition began to emerge.
The recent declaration of Amazonone of the giants in the technology sector, warning about the difficulties of promotion for employees who choose to remain outside the office, sheds light on the challenges and new changes in this corporate scenario.
Amazon favors employees who return to in-person

A Amazon is reinforcing its return to office policy, informing employees that failure to comply with this guideline may impact promotion opportunities.
The company confirmed to CNN that employees who do not regularly work in the office at least three days a week will face additional review from leadership for any potential promotion.
“There are a variety of factors we consider when determining an employee’s readiness for the next level,” Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser told CNN in a statement.
“Like any company, we expect employees considered for promotion to comply with company guidelines and policies,” adds Glasser.
In February, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that employees must return to the office at least three days a week starting in May, after three years of remote work due to the pandemic.
Jassy justified this measure by emphasizing the ease and effectiveness of in-person collaboration.
This decision, however, faced resistance from some employees, culminating in a strike at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters in May, which coincided with previous layoffs of approximately 27,000 employees.
In August, Amazon sent warning emails to some office workers, signaling concerns about non-compliance with return-to-in-person work policies.
The company clarified that it has a policy for requesting exceptions for remote work, assessed individually.
