In the current context of broad connectivity in which we live, concerns about preserving privacy and data security is dominant. This distress is the result of the successive migration of personal information to the virtual environment, thus becoming targets of possible cyber attacks.
Prominent among the dominant ones in the virtual environment are social networks, where the data of billions of users is found, exposed through previously requested concessions.
Because they require personal data for their use, in addition to profiting from the use of profiles, these platforms are mainly responsible for the misuse of information, subject even to the action of the law that aims to regulate and punish networks in cases of virtual crimes and guarantee the integrity of users.

A recent case has had repercussions on the internet in recent days, in which a judicial decision determined by the public body of Minas Gerais requires that the Goal, the company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and the new Threads, pay compensation to its users. At least for those whose data was leaked between 2018 and 2019.
In those years, there was a mass exposure of personal information in the company’s applications due to an invasion by criminals, who managed to steal an abundant amount of data.
Around 15 million users were impacted and had their emails, phone numbers, photos, videos, names and even addresses leaked onto the internet. Tens of millions of other people were affected, with information about work, religion and gender being revealed.
Therefore, the court determined that R$20 million in compensation will be paid, intended for users who meet certain criteria.
