A Apple announced yesterday (25) unprecedented changes to its operating system, iOSin the Safari browser and in the App Store application store in order to follow new European Union (EU) rules.
It turns out that several countries in the European group have imposed some limitations on large technology companies to offer more choice to consumers, thus promoting fair competition in the market.
Apple makes big changes to the App Store
Starting now, Apple customers in the European Union will be able to download apps and make purchases outside of the App Store for the first time.
This means they will have more freedom to choose how they want to use their devices. Furthermore, it will be possible to use different payment systems and easily choose a new default browser.
These changes are historic for Apple, which has always been known for having a closed system on its iPhones, iPads and Macs. However, as of March this year, the 27 countries of European Union will have access to these expanded options.
Apple is also allowing developers to create and distribute their apps on other operating systems, not just iOS.
This opens up new opportunities and gives more flexibility to app creators, who can now request features to communicate across different platforms.
But according to what Apple informed, all apps or accessories installed outside app store will still undergo an App Store check, so the company still aims to maintain the quality and security of its systems.

Default browser and games
In the Safari browser, Apple is introducing a new screen for choosing default browsers such as Chrome and Firefox.
This screen will appear when users first open the page in iOS 17.4, giving users more options from the start.
Apple is also following the guidelines of the EU allowing payments outside its ecosystem. This includes using external links and using your own iPhone for contactless payments.
In games, the changes allow developers to incorporate different purchasing systems, such as chatbots and plug-ins, into streams.
These transformations are marking a new era for Apple in the European Union, demonstrating a commitment to innovation, consumer freedom of choice and promoting healthy competition in the technology market.
