Apple has taken a major step forward by announcing the expansion of its self-repair service, allowing consumers to repair their devices and replace internal components from the comfort of their own homes.
Now, the entire iPhone 14 lineup, as well as MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with the company’s latest processors, are eligible for the program.
Called Self Service Repair, the program allows any consumer to repair their electronics using manuals, genuine parts and tools identical to those used in Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Services.
How does the self-repair service work?
Available only in countries that have been selected by Apple, consumers can now take advantage of this program to exchange parts across the entire iPhone 14 lineup and 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip, and MacBook Pro models equipped with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.
Apple is also using the new feature to highlight the simplification of the System Configuration process for iPhone repairs. This ensures that consumers perform all necessary checks before disassembling the product.
Additionally, the company announced an expansion of the components available for exchange, including the True Depth camera for Face ID and the top speaker on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models. And the iMac and Mac Mini models with the M1 chip have also been added to the self-repair program.
It has been quite common to see these new self-repair formats, which give consumers greater autonomy. Some disagree, because it leaves the repair in the hands of a person who does not know how to do it. However, brands such as Apple and Samsung are betting on this new innovation.
Apple Self Service Repair can be purchased in countries such as Germany, Belgium, Spain, United States, France, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom and Sweden. However, there is still no forecast for the launch of the program in Brazil.
